Perry is the child to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry, a director. Her first roles on television were two roles in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mother. The family did not allow her to act until she became an adult because of the impact stress might have on their daughter. Perry admitted she was shy to act in high school but began performing at Northwestern University as a way to build relationships after her transfer from Boston University. After graduating Perry was able to move to New York to search for TV work, landing a few roles in shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent However, she was stricken by homelessness and brought her back to California where she found acting work. Perry was a part of Broadway on Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in 2013. In 2015, she performed with her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Anna Christie in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played a part in 9 episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. Perry played a prominent role as a character on ABC show, a political thriller Scandal with her dad. The same year she got a role as a young character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again playing a young version of her mother's role. Despite her connection to the family of the character, she was offered the role via an audition.
